Cambridge Writers’ Workshop:
The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop (CWW) began as a creative writing community in Cambridge, MA.  Formed by graduate students at Harvard University in 2008, the workshop was meant as a forum for fostering communities of dedicated writers and encouraging creative expression in the literary arts.  The CWW was all-inclusive and was open to all emerging and established writers in the Cambridge and Boston area.  Since 2008, the CWW has been run by directors Rita Banerjee and Diana Norma Szokolyai.  Current Executive Board members include Gregory Crosby, Jonah Kruvant, Elissa Lewis, Viktor Pachas, Jessica Reidy, Kathleen Spivack, our managing interns Alex Carrigan and Emily Smith, and our interns Alyssa Goldstein Ekstrom and Casey Lynch. In 2011, the workshop expanded to include on-line creative writing courses and writing retreats. We have participated in the Mass Poetry Festival, Brooklyn Book Festival, Brooklyn Lit Crawl, Manhattan Lit Crawl, and the annual AWP Conference. All writers from novices to professionals, who are looking for a serious writing community, are welcome to join the Cambridge Writers’ Workshop.

Association of Writers and Writing Programs:
AWP provides support, advocacy, resources, and community to nearly 50,000 writers, 550 college and university creative writing programs, and 150 writers’ conferences and centers. Our mission is to foster literary achievement, advance the art of writing as essential to a good education, and serve the makers, teachers, students, and readers of contemporary writing.

Poets & Writers Magazine:
Poets & Writers, Inc., is the primary source of information, support, and guidance for creative writers. Founded in 1970, it is the nation’s largest nonprofit literary organization serving poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers. Our national office is located in New York City. Our California branch office is based in Los Angeles.

The Munich Readery:
Proprietor John Browner has more than 30 years experience as a bookseller.  He started in the book business as a clerk at the original Barnes & Noble Bookstore in New York City, where he worked on and off from 1976-1981.  While living in New York he published a novel, Death of a Punk (Pocketbooks, 1980) that enjoyed moderate success as the first punk noir novel.  (It was published in German by the Heyne Verlag here in Munich under the title, Tod Eines Punk and in French by Gallimard under the title, ZZZ)

In 1981 John moved to New Hampshire and managed a secondhand book shop there. Three years later he opened his first shop, Johnnie’s Paperback Place, in Claremont, New Hampshire.  After a few harsh New England winters, he began looking for a more temperate location, and in 1987 opened Bell, Book, & Coffee in Durham, North Carolina. It was a bookstore/café, one of the first in the United States.

In 1991 John moved across town to a larger space and opened Ravena’s Restaurant & Bookstore, a business that grew to employ 25 people.  After five years he burned out on being a boss, handed the reins to two managers and came for the first time to Munich, where he rented an apartment in Neuperlach for six months.  He spent his days walking around Munich and his evenings writing stories and essays.  He also began daydreaming of opening an English-language secondhand-book shop here.

Amerika Haus München:
The Munich Amerikahaus is run by Stiftung Bayerisches Amerikahaus gGmbH – Bavarian Center for Transatlantic Relations. Our mission is to foster the relationship between Bavaria and North America. We organize events (lectures, podium discussions, author readings, exhibitions, concerts, theater plays etc.) that deal with American culture, society, politics, and more. While our target audience is Bavarian (hence the German website) we love to have Americans and Canadians take part in our programs and benefit from our services. Many of our events are in English, just check out our program listings. If it is described in English the event will be as well.

Literaturhaus München:
Seitdem steht das Literaturhaus München allen Literatur- und Kulturinteressierten offen. Internationale Bestseller werden hier neben Texten junger Autoren präsentiert. Für kontroverse Diskussionen aktueller politischer und kultureller Themen ist hier ebenso Platz wie für Prosa, Pop und Poesie. Als Mittelpunkt des literarischen Lebens bietet das Haus mit jährlich etwa fünf Ausstellungen, 150 Lesungen, Diskussionen und Gesprächen, Tagungen, Seminaren und Workshops Raum für Annäherungen an Autoren und ihre Bücher, greift neue kulturelle Strömungen auf und eröffnet immer wieder den Dialog mit dem Publikum.
